Imagine starting your day with perfectly polished nails that still look freshly applied, even after a busy week. Over time, I’ve refined a simple yet effective method that ensures your press-on nails stay in place and maintain their charm. Ready to elevate your nail routine with a few practical, tried-and-true tips?
Step 1: Prepare Your Nails
Dry Nails: Ensure your natural nails are completely dry. Moisture or softness can prevent a good bond.
Cleanse: Wipe each nail with an alcohol pad to remove oils and bacteria, reducing the risk of infection.
Cuticle Care: Gently push back your cuticles.
File Your Nails: File the top layer of your natural nail across the entire surface. This creates texture that helps the glue adhere better.
Optional: Lightly file the inside of the false (press-on) nail.
Step 2: Select the Right Size
Proper fit: Make sure the press-on nails match the size and shape of your natural nails.
If in Doubt: If you’re in between sizes, choose the smaller size for a better fit.
Step 3: Apply the Glue
Apply a Dot: Place a small dot of nail glue on your natural nail.
Match it Up: Also apply a dot of glue to the corresponding area on the press-on nail.
Glue Amounts: Try your best to visualize the amount of glue needed to fully cover your natural nail bonding it to the false nail. It’s better to have put too much than not enough, resulting in the false nail coming off.
Step 4: Attach the Press-On Nail
Positioning: Hold the press-on nail at an angle.
Press Gently: First, press the area closest to your cuticle, then firmly press down on the rest of the nail and around the edges.
Hold Firmly: Maintain pressure on the nail for 30 seconds to secure the bond.
Application Order: Start with your pinky finger and work inward, leaving your thumbs for last.
Step 5: Final Tips for Longevity
Avoid Water: Try and avoid getting your nails wet for as long as possible. I typically do it before bed to maximize the time.
Glue Recommendations: While many brands work well, KISS nail glue has consistently given the best results.
