Do you ever feel like you don’t really know what’s in your closet? Are you constantly buying new clothes, believing you have nothing to wear? Have you ever wished you could break free from the trend cycle and get in touch with your own sense of style? If you answered yes to any of those questions, allow me to introduce Indyx, an app designed to help you tackle those common fashion struggles.
Indyx was founded by Yidi Campbell, an entrepreneur who created the app to help users break out of the fast fashion cycle and embrace their personal style. As Indyx’s Our Story page shares, “The fashion industry wants us to believe the solution is to buy something new, and so we buy individual pieces, but we live life in outfits. Without visibility into our wardrobes and a style system to make all of our items work together, that shiny new item languishes in the back of our closet and is worn only a few times before getting tossed.” If that endless cycle of buying, tossing, and buying again sounds familiar, read on to learn about some of my favorite Indyx features and decide if this app could be the solution to your wardrobe woes.
User-Friendly Technology
When I started using Indyx, I was new to flat-lay photography, but I was able to get the hang of everything almost immediately. Indyx does the hard work for you by automatically removing the background on all photos, so all you need to do is capture a clear image of the item you want to add to your digital wardrobe and input a few details about it to get started! From start to finish, the process of cataloging your wardrobe couldn’t be easier.
Outfit Creation and Planning
Once you’ve digitized your wardrobe, the real fun begins. In addition to helping users transform their individual pieces into full outfits, Indyx allows for those outfits to be scheduled ahead of time. I’ve worked some Indyx time into my Sunday night routine, and by utilizing this calendar feature just once a week, I’ve cut down on the time it takes to get ready each day. Rather than tearing apart my closet every morning, I wake up knowing that I already have the day’s look fully planned. What’s more, this practice has allowed me to create a collection of tried-and-true outfits, helping me to confidently rewear and restyle what I already own, instead of feeling compelled to constantly buy more.
Individual Piece Data
Every time you add an outfit to your calendar, Indyx automatically tracks the data for every item included in that outfit. Over time, you can easily see how many times you’ve worn individual pieces and specific outfits. Additionally, if you include the purchase price for an item, Indyx will keep you in the loop on the cost per wear. This data has helped me develop a better understanding of my personal style, plan outfits more intentionally, and make conscious purchases. Rather than buying impulsively or following along on current trends, I can make decisions based on what I know fits into my personal idea of fashion.
There’s so much more to explore and enjoy with Indyx beyond what I’ve highlighted here. And, did I mention? It’s completely free! If you want to level up your Indyx game, there are paid upgrades, but I personally feel that the free plan is more than enough to help you take charge of your closet and style.
For me, Indyx is a win-win-win: I can plan and track in ways that work for me, understand my personal tastes, and make more informed decisions about when, where, and how I purchase (and don’t purchase) clothing. If any of these sound like things you’d like to cultivate for yourself, I'd encourage you to check out Indyx!
